Emergency Support Program
Program Outline
The program aims to find or identify people with sudden economic or social difficulties early so as to provide them with timely medical and housing assistance and to help them escape from their crisis situation.
Beneficiaries
Households facing difficulties in livelihood due to a sudden crisis (e.g., death of the breadwinner, leaving home, missing, detention in a detention facility, suffering from a serious disease or injury, suffering from domestic violence or sexual harassment, fire, divorce, business suspension or shutdown)
Income and Property Criteria
- Income criterion : Under 185% of the lowest livelihood cost
- Property criteria : Large cities (under KRW135 million), small and medium-sized cities (under KRW85 million), and agricultural and fishing areas (under KRW72.5 million)
- Financial property : Under KRW5 million (provided under KRW7 million housing support is provided)
Type of Benefits
Livelihood, medical services, housing, use of social welfare facilities, education, fuel cost, cost of giving birth, funeral cost, and electricity charges
Foreigner Support Criteria
The following foreigners in South Korea are eligible to receive foreigner support
- foreigners married South Korean nationals;
- foreigners divorced from a South Korean national or whose South Korean spouse died, and who are required to support their South Korean lineal ascendants or descendants;
- foreigners recognized as refugees pursuant to the Refugee Act (Article 2, paragraph 2);
- foreigners who, through no fault of their own, suffered from fires, crimes, or natural disasters; and
- foreigners considered by the Minister of Health and Welfare as needing emergency support.
